There are already many online publishing tools. Why Novamag now?

The flip page PDFs of many providers are rigid and lifeless. But if you want to build a really good website instead, it's a lot of work - we've experienced that ourselves. That's why the idea for Novamag was born.

Novamag was just a project in the beginning. With the company NordLevel we won a pitch for a Swiss insurance company: We were to create a magazine online - but not as a flip page PDF, but responsively and suitable for SEO. Two programmers, two project managers and a graphic designer worked full time on this project per issue - quite a lot of work for one client. Our managing director wanted it to run better: And so the idea was born to develop a software with design modules and sell licenses. We started working on it right away and at some point put all our energy into the project. In 2019 NordLevel became Novamag, and since then we have officially been part of the IGEPA Group.

Originally we developed Novamag to publish periodicals - that's what we specialise in. We can easily translate existing print publications with design modules online, but we can also create new publications directly digitally. The software is very versatile. In fact, everything that you want to publish online can be implemented with Novamag: from magazines and brochures to photo books and travel blogs.

You rely on design modules. Doesn't every online magazine look the same then?

The building blocks are important for the easy handling of the software. Nevertheless, the elements can be adapted to different designs - colours, logos, fonts can be selected individually, for example. In addition, the modules can be changed rudimentarily by means of certain parameters. Coupled with the number of design modules and the possibilities to place them, each result appears individual.

How much print is still in the online magazine?

If you want to translate a print medium online, images, logos, colours and fonts will definitely give it a recognition value. Nevertheless, one has to say goodbye to the idea of being able to transfer print one to one online: Sometimes a different picture fits digitally better than in a print magazine. Or a head has to be changed because it doesn't work as well online as in the magazine ...

With Novamag, users can prepare their online publication themselves using various design construction kits - not only with text and images, but also with audio and video files. It is also possible to embed interactive and external content. Novamag's clients include Atlas Copco, HOCHTIEF, Center Parcs, VolvoCE, Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa and the Körber Foundation. Munich, January 29, 2021 - Innovative, inspiring, informative and interactive: the tour operator's seasonal and annual catalogs, which were previously printed twice a year, will appear mainly digitally in the future to give guests a contemporary, sustainable alternative for vacation planning. Bundled on the digital portal mag.fti.com, the eMag depicts different travel worlds, subdivided by destinations and themes. The cross-media content platform enables its users to design a trip variably and to plan it easily - and to adapt it specifically to their individual needs. Since the digital travel magalog is also optimized for mobile devices and has an adapted layout, guests can find information about their trip or get inspiration for selected excursions anywhere, whether at home, on the road, or already on vacation. The eMag thus represents far more than just a mirror image of the classic catalogs that can be called up online, as FTI Group Managing Director Ralph Schiller emphasizes: "The eMag is a true all-rounder, because it is a source of inspiration, booking aid and travel guide all at the same time. The pandemic has greatly accelerated this development from analog to digital, both in everyday life and in the world of work." The CEO continues, "We have therefore used the time of the Corona-related travel shutdown since July 2020 to further develop the classic catalog for our future program presentation in such a way that it best meets the increased demands for environmental friendliness, innovation and flexibility."

Interactive and climate-friendly when planning vacations By using the digitalized Travel Worlds and dispensing with printed catalogs as far as possible, the tour operator is also reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and climate awareness. This not only conserves resources in the production of the approximately 1.6 billion catalog pages per season to date, but also saves emissions in the production and delivery of the brochures to travel agencies in all parts of Germany. The eMag also offers FTI guests a wide range of vacation planning options in the application: users can use a filter function to call up possible travel countries that are perfectly tailored to their interests, and the integrated Google Maps function to check out the location of hotels or the nearest beach to an accommodation. Likewise, he can use the vacation weather search to display possible countries according to his temperature preferences at the planned travel time. With daily adjusted availabilities and dynamic price tables of the hotels guests are always kept up to date. A mouse click on a selected hotel takes them directly to the FTI or travel agency website, where they can call up further information and offers on accommodation, travel period or destination, or book directly. "The importance of catalogs in travel agencies in all honor, Corona keeps us clearly in mind that location independence and temporal agility are a must in the 21st century. We are perfectly meeting this digital transformation with the mobile and flexible eMag," explains Thomas Schmidt, Head of Consumer Marketing at FTI. He adds: "Whereas a printed catalog was often out of date the very next day, we can continually adapt eMag content in the event of changes to the program, prices or availability thanks to the direct link to our content and booking system. In addition, hotel and destination partners can present themselves much larger and more comprehensively. This makes us seasonally independent and always keeps guests up to date."

eMag travel worlds with country and theme diversity as well as optional "On Demand" print version From inspiring videos about the destination to detailed information and high-resolution image galleries to links to the FTI travel blog or the Glücksmomente podcast, the prospective vacationer can get to know a destination in the best possible way using eMag. The eMag celebrates its premiere with the destinations Dubai, Greece and the Indian Ocean as well as individual travel destinations in Europe. By the end of March 2021, the entire FTI program will be digitally mapped: Thus, travel worlds to Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and Morocco follow in the package sector, as well as Kenya, Tanzania and North America highlights on the long-haul route, while thematically the most attractive vacation offers for families are to be discovered. Guests who do not want to do without vacation inspiration in print format can order a personalized 'On Demand' Magalog of their selected destinations exclusively and individually via their travel agent.
